It Was Never About the Game by Ian Coach Ian Neilson
Coach Ian speaking one-on-one with a young hockey player at the bench
The moments between shiftsWhere trust is built and lessons take hold.

Beyond the scoreboard

The game brought us together.
The people made it matter.

What began as a hockey season became a story about belief, leadership, resilience and belonging. It Was Never About the Game captures the moments that shaped a team—and reminded a coach why this work matters.

The standard

How preparation, accountability and effort build more than better players.

The team

Why belonging, trust and shared purpose matter more than any individual result.

The lasting lesson

The wins fade. The confidence, friendships and memories travel with us.

“The season ended.
The story didn’t.”
